Sospiro Dress

Sospiro is Italian for a sigh, the breath music takes without a note being written for it. Liszt named one of his most loved études Un Sospiro, one long line rising and releasing. This gown is built on that single breath. The front is the inhale: a quiet round neckline, strong clean shoulders, and the charmeuse gathered to a point at the center of the chest, caught in soft pleats above a chevron seam, fabric held the way lungs hold air at the top of a phrase. The exhale happens behind. The shoulder line folds over and falls into a low draped cowl across the back, and from the base of that drape a long sash slips free and pours down the center, past the hem, onto the floor. Nothing about it is fastened or forced; it simply lets go. The front holds its breath, the back releases it. One sigh, sustained the full length of the dress. In burgundy.
