Fioritura Dress

In bel canto, fioritura is the flowering of the melody: the moment a singer takes a plain written line and lets it blossom into ornament. This gown is one long line with a single flowering. The neckline sweeps off one shoulder on the diagonal, a folded edge resting at the arm on one side and dropping away on the other, traced by a fine strap across the collarbone. From there the charmeuse is draped close through the body, every fold running toward one point at the hip. And at that point the line blooms: a rose folded petal by petal from the same charmeuse, with a wrapped panel unfurling beneath it down the side of the skirt in soft turned folds, like the outer petals of the same flower opening as they fall. The ornament is not added onto the dress; it grows out of the dress's own fabric, the way fioritura grows out of the melody itself. One line, one bloom, sung in red.

This piece holds its shape and has no give. The fit is precise by design, cut close to the body with minimal ease. If you prefer room, or you fall between sizes, take the larger size.
