Bel Canto Dress

Bel canto is the old Italian school of singing built on one idea: the entire voice is carried from an open throat, in a single unbroken line, with no visible effort. This gown is engineered on the same principle. Everything hangs from the throat. The charmeuse gathers into a soft ring at the neck and falls from it in draped pleats, the shoulders bare, the back cut open to the small of the back, so that nothing else in sight is doing any work. What follows is one continuous phrase. The drape crosses the bodice, is drawn once through a narrow band at the low waist, the way a singer renews the breath mid line without letting the note lapse, then releases into a pleated cascade that carries to the floor. The colour is a deep peacock blue with a lacquered shine, the one piece in this drop that sings at full voice. Effort hidden, line unbroken. That is bel canto.

This piece holds its shape and has no give. The fit is precise by design, cut close to the body with minimal ease. If you prefer room, or you fall between sizes, take the larger size.
